Big Bend and Marathon, Texas 3/28/2004 - 3/31/2004 by Paul Ridenour
Sunday March 28th
Left Dallas and spent the night in Midland.
Instead of going to the west side of Big Bend like the last trip, we decided to go to the east side.
Monday March 29th
We left in the morning and arrived in Marathon in about 2-3 hours and got a room at the famous Gage Hotel. The room was $69, had no bathroom, and had no TV which was nice. We spent the day in the park. The cacti (Yucca, Ocotillo, and some barrel) were blooming and the bluebonnets were starting to fade. Most of the Prickly Pear cacti will be blooming in two weeks or so along with the rest of the barrel and jumping cacti.
Tuesday March 30th
Got a room for $139 and spent the day in the park along with some shopping in town. The restaurant at the Gage Hotel had a very good breakfast (about $10 a person) and good steaks at dinner.
Wednesday March 31st
Left about noon and stopped off at Wood’s Boots in Colorado City and did some shopping. I did bring back a couple of Cacti.
