Blue Kitty, sister Mandy Girl, and outsider Lauren

(See bottom for "Bo" and "Sweetie")

Blue Kitty (circa 9/1982-6/6/2000) - Dottie got Blue and Mandy for her 20th birthday. Blue always needed tons of attention. He loved being outdoors and he loved to eat. He was 21 pounds after his first year. He had blue eyes when he was a kitten (picture soon). We named him after the Elton John song "Blue Eyes". Blue was on several of our Christmas cards and he is quite famous. He was also on a Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity calendar (see below) with Dottie in 1983 at the University of North Texas. After awhile, his posing fee got too expensive. After almost 18 years, we had to put him to sleep on June 6, 2000. We loved him and miss him.

He loved to play with anything

Mandy Girl (circa 9/1982) - the shy tiny one. Blue loved to sleep on top of her. She was okay with it until she woke up. Mandy was named after Amanda on the soap opera "All My Children" and Barry Manilow's "Mandy." She was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2001. We finally put her to sleep on 3/19/2002, after 19 1/2 years.

Lauren - "Outsider" because she hardly ever comes in the house. She came from Dottie's father's house in Cut-n-Shoot, Texas, circa 1994. Lauren kept her blue eyes. She is very independent.  She has not been seen since 6/5/2001.

Dottie remembers how she got Blue:

I got my cat Blue as my 20th birthday present from a lady who lived in a trailer home. She had a purebred Siamese with papers who got out one night and had a litter of tabbies from a tomcat and she didn't want any of the kittens since they weren't pure Siamese. I didn't have a lot of money and lived alone, so a free cat seemed like a great idea.

I remember sitting in her living room when she went into a back bedroom and opened up the door. A flood of 6 week old kittens came running through the living room (about 6 or 7) like a herd of cattle. Then one of them stopped in his tracks and just stared at me, then came over to me as the other ones hauled butt into the kitchen. I still remember being so surprised how he picked me out rather than me picking him out.

He just stared at me and came up to my feet and I picked him up and said this is the one for me. He had beautiful baby blue eyes so I named him Blue.

My favorite memory of him as a kitten was how he was so tiny he would sleep on my pillow next to my head. He would wake me up in the morning with his little kitty sandpaper tongue by licking my eyelashes which always made me laugh. He seemed to be saying open your eyes and play with me!

He was a rambunctious kitten who liked to tear around my apartment 90 miles per hour. In fact, he would crawl straight up my leg into my arms.

As the years went by I had a lot of fun playing with him. He got bigger so he couldn't sleep on my pillow with me, so he decided he would sleep on the pillow next to me. He would lay on his side with his head on the pillow just like I did (I think sometimes he thought he was a person).

He was really happy when I moved out of my apartment and into a house with a backyard. To him that backyard was kitty heaven. I would come out on the back porch and spend a lot of time brushing him which he loved, it was one of his favorite things.

Last night I could tell he was hurting, so I got his brush out and groomed him and he just stretched out like it really made him feel better. He purred a lot. I'm glad we got to share that one more time and I could do something to make him feel better. Then I picked him up and held him and told him not to be afraid and that I loved him and would miss him.

He went peacefully and painlessly. He's buried in his favorite spot in the backyard where he always liked to sleep. Leaves were still pressed down from him laying there marking his place.

Dottie and Blue on Pike Calendar November 1983: (even in May of 1984, some guys in the dorm still had November showing)
